Eighteen year-old Deborah Rose is a writer and poet with a vivid imagination and passion for creative aesthetics.
With two self-published children's fantasy, adventure novels and a historical, tragedy on the way, Deborah's dream is to evoke strong emotions in her readers: love, confusion, heartbreak and inspiration.
Deborah Rose dreamed of becoming a published author from the age of six when she started writing pieces in and out of school. From diaries of Victorian servants to short stories about runaway faeries and princesses, Deborah discovered her favourite genres - historical fiction and fantasy. Famous Five, Hetty Feather and Percy Jackson were just three of the most influential book series' of her childhood.
Deborah Rose was homeschooled for the majority of secondary school which gave her the freedom to be creative and the opportunity to apply more of her time to her passion. She researched and observed eras, cultures and people as part of various projects.
In 2015, Deborah built a Japanese dollhouse and wrote unpublished works about the dolls that lived inside. Later the same year, she submitted an article on food waste which led to her being shortlisted in the top ten for the ‘Stabilo Young Journalist of the Year’ 2015.
In 2016, Deborah studied the Tudors extensively, fascinated by The Other Boleyn Girl by Phillipa Gregory and The Lady Grace Mysteries, and wrote her longest work to that date, a 11,400 word story called What's Left Of The Boleyn Family.
She taught herself Latin and received a B at Level 2 (GCSE equivalent) and a C in her EPQ on Latin in Children's Literature. This influenced her screenplay for a short film called romani cimelium, though this was never produced. Latin appears in Deborah's first two novels as the magical language of the Mythical Romani.
In the Summer of 2017, when she was fourteen, Deborah began writing her first novel, Dragon Pearls. It took three years of dreaming, dedication, determination and saving money to release and fulfil her dream of becoming a published author in June 2019. All one hundred paperback copies were sold within a year and she published a second edition in July 2020, closely followed by the sequel Crown My Heart in September 2020.
English, Latin and History were her favourite subjects to study at GCSE and Deborah went on to study English Language and Literature, Early Modern History and Film Studies at A Level. She is now working full time whilst writing her next novel: a historical romance and tragedy set in the Iron Age when the Anglo-Saxons were infiltrating the remaining Celtic tribes with violence and their Christian ideology.
Deborah is lively, imaginative and ambitious and intends to start a Creative Writing Degree to expand her range and abilities next year.
